Educational Programs
The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey offers seizure first aid trainings and in-services on the medical, educational and social impact of epilepsy available to any interested school, health and social service organization, group, etc. Trainings and in-services are provided statewide.
Listed below are some of the more specific trainings that the Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey offers:
School Personnel
Participants will learn how to recognize different types of seizures, how to respond to someone having a seizure, how to provide any necessary first aid, the importance of giving emotional support to individuals affected by epilepsy, and how to help others understand.
Professional Development Hour(s): 1 hour
School Nurse Training Program
The School Nurse Training Program is a continuing education training program designed to provide the school nurse with information, strategies and resources that will enable him/her to better manage the student with seizures by:
- Supporting positive treatment outcomes
- Maximizing educational and developmental opportunities
- Ensuring a safe and supportive environment
A charge might apply for this training to support the cost of the training materials.
Thinking About Epilepsy ProgramThinking About Epilepsy is an education program designed for fifth graders to increase knowledge about epilepsy and seizure first aid. Funded by the Anita Kaufmann Foundation, 15,000 fifth graders have been trained since 2007. The program promotes tolerance for children affected by this medical condition in hopes of reducing the stigma attached to epilepsy. Thinking About Epilepsy is program is available to any school for their fifth grade classes.

First Responders
The First Responders training is for EMTs, police officers, and other first responders.
Community Groups
Participants will learn how to recognize different types of seizures, how to respond to someone having a seizure, how to provide any necessary first aid, the importance of giving emotional support to individuals affected by epilepsy, and how to help others understand.
Hispanic Outreach
The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey can also provide seizure first aid trainings in Spanish.
Health Fairs
In addition to presentations, the Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey would be able to exhibit at any conference that your organization might be having.
Seizures and You - Take Charge of the Facts
Seizures and You: Take Charge of the Facts is an epilepsy awareness program targeting teenagers in middle and high school. The program is designed to take place in one 45-minute class period. Seizures and You: Take Charge of the Facts is part of a multi-year effort to educate teens, dispel myths and reduce the perceived stigma associated with epilepsy.
